Studio Ammo

Starting Up!

The website is currently in it’s infancy, as Studio Ammo branding, domains and other essentials are being developed!

Goals

The primary goal of setting up this studio is to make the most of localised and international talent. In the case of localised talent, I intend on looking for aspiring artists, animators, voice-actors etc. based in Cork, as I feel there’s little to no industry in this county.

Despite claims of the animation industry booming in Ireland, it’s predominantly in and around Dublin or other counties such as Kilkenny. Meaning Cork-based talent are limited to mostly working from home or emigrating elsewhere. An unfortunately ironic situation considering the establishment of various film festivals such as Fastnet Film Festival and Cork Film Festival.

I will push to gather talented artists, sound designers and other essential staff for the development of this start-up business, along with additional funding to help pay their wages, necessary equipment, software licenses and acquire an office space.

Various sources for funding will also be gathered, such as Screen Ireland, Agility, Cork County Council and the Rubicon!

We believe that animation is a medium commonly generalised as being for kids, when it can be utilised to tell captivating, sympathetic or even thought-provoking stories for everyone regardless of age. Therefore, our current target audience are teens or young adults.

There is also a concern about the current state of the Irish language, as the methodology in our education system is considerably lagging behind others such as Spanish, French, German etc. In a globalised world with massive innovations in technology, entertainment and means of communication, Irish is seemingly disregarded by many as a “dead language” or “one you only have to learn in school” at most.

I wish to use my animations and funding to gather interest in taking on Irish-speaking voice actors nationally and perhaps internationally, to make the language not just accessible and motivating to use in daily life for Irish people, but also for people in the diaspora or everyone across the world who has an interest in our language, culture, history and so on.

Current Project

In my “Video & Compositing” module for the final year of Creative Digital Media, I’m developing an animated series concept called “Pear: Ripe for the Picking!”. The story follows an anthropomorphic pear who invests a lot of energy getting ready and traversing to a demanding job with an equally unforgiving manager.

This show is aimed towards people in the working world, as the stories told are often sympathetic in a satirical manner to the struggles of employees. The chosen style will feature zany animated characters, some exhibiting distinctly human personalities, juxtaposed against realistic backgrounds. This approach mirrors the aesthetics of popular shows like “The Amazing World of Gumball” and “SpongeBob SquarePants”.

This show will first be promoted to different broadcasters or streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon or Adult Swim, with the intention of getting the show greenlit to air for it’s first season. Alternatively, the episodes will be uploaded to YouTube with a crowdfunding campaign carried out through either Kickstarter or Patreon, where backers will receive awards in merchandise, exclusive insight into the production process and even early access to released episodes before they are made public.

The series premiere or crowdfunding campaign will also be promoted online through platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Tiktok using promotional videos, pictures and more.

Once the show concept is complete and submitted as part of “Video & Compositing” module, it will also be submitted to various festivals such as “Fastnet Film Festival”, “Cork Film Festival” and “Animation Dingle” in an attempt to gain additional funding through the financial awards offered or additional contacts who can help contribute to production of the series. Alternatively, the original concept will be posted online for anyone to watch, which will be linked here on our website!
